Community & Youth Brass Bands

Tauranga City Brass Auxilary, conducted by Annabelle Stewart, at their first Waikato Bay of Plenty Brass Band Regional Contest in 2025.

Community brass bands play an important role in developing young musicians beyond individual lessons. They provide opportunities to perform regularly, develop ensemble skills, build confidence, and become part of a welcoming musical community.

Auralis Music Academy actively supports and encourages students to become involved in local youth and community bands as an extension of their musical education. Participation in community ensembles complements private tuition by helping students apply the skills they learn in lessons within a collaborative, real-world musical environment.

The youth band featured here was founded by Auralis Director Annabelle Stewart, who identified a need for a dedicated development ensemble for young brass musicians in the Bay of Plenty. Drawing on her experience as a brass educator, conductor and community arts leader, Annabelle continues to provide the band's musical direction while working alongside volunteers, families and the wider brass band community to create meaningful performance opportunities for young musicians.
